Located inside the constellation Orion,
M42 can be spotted with the naked eye,
while offering an excellent peek at stellar birth for those with telescopes.⁣

This month starts off with a lovely string of pearls —
with Jupiter,
Venus,
Saturn and the crescent Moon forming a lineup at dusk on December 1st.
Plan to sky gaze throughout the month to see beautiful pairings of planets and the crescent Moon,
at sunrise and sunset.

While many galaxies live solitary lives,
others interact with a neighbor galaxy,
like this duo spotted by our @NASAHubble Space Telescope over 250 million light-years from Earth.
⁣
⁣
These neighbors are interacting in the cosmos,
with their mutual gravitational attraction pulling wisps of gas and streams of dust from them,
distorting their shapes,
and gently smudging and blurring their appearances on the sky —
to Earth-based observers,
at least.
Thanks to Hubble,
our view of the universe and our place within it has never been the same.⁣
