And when it's closest to us,
it becomes more than just the Moon --
it's a Supermoon.
Supermoons occur when the Moon’s orbit is closest (perigee)
to Earth at the same time it is full.
In case you missed it,
the world witnessed one this week when our closest celestial neighbor came about 253,000 miles (405,500 kilometers)
away from Earth.
