     FREELANCING Next up in my freelancing mini-series:

     How do I find clients?
     .
     🔑
     Most of my clients have come through my existing network.
     .
     I worked for years before freelancing.
     Taking time to build my network,
     project experience in various sectors,
     &
     understand client-facing consulting,
     massively helped when finding freelance clients.
     .
     I won my first contract by putting out a Tweet!
     A CEO I knew replied &
     that company has been a recurring client ever since.
     ☺️
     .
     Leveraging your network has several benefits for you and your client(s):
     •
     client work is about building trust &
     showing you can deliver value -
     its a lot easier to do that if you’ve worked together in the past •
     this often bypasses the need for a full interview,
     coding tests etc.
     Often I end up just having a chat about what the client is looking for,
     a discussion about rates,
     &
     (if it works out)
     my availability.
     •
     having initial trust in the relationship means clients are often willing to be more flexible eg in terms of working remotely /
     when you work /
     even rates!
     .
     Of course,
     you can’t always rely on previous contacts.
     So other options:
     •
     Twitter -
     you never know who might reply to a tweet saying you’re available for client work.
     •
     LinkedIn.
     Go all in!
     Use Premium while searching for clients.
     Use job listings &
     notifications.
     Get recommendations from previous clients/employers -
     again it’s about building up a reputation &
     trust in potential clients who don’t yet know you.
     •
     Agencies.
     These list jobs on behalf of a client -
     you work for the client via the agency.
     This makes it easier to find clients,
     deal with rate negotiations,
     and ensure you get paid on time.
     (Your rate might be slightly lower tho -
     agencies will add a mark-up on the rate they charge you out)
     •
     Upwork &
     similar sites can be a great way to build reputation •
     Instagram!
     Make your feed advertise your business •
     Google!
     A simple search,
     e.g.
     “freelance iOS developer job London”
     •
     stackoverflow jobs,
     iosdevjobs &
     other listing sites •
     TALK TO PEOPLE!
     Attend meet-ups.
     Catch up with previous work colleagues.
     You never know where your next client might come from!

     What music do I listen to while I study and work?
     🎶
     .
     I've been paying for @spotifycanada for years now.
     I tried @applemusic because it's 50%
     cheaper than Spotify and I lasted 12 hours...
     😅
     What I like the most about Spotify are the playlists and recommendation system.
     
     You can find new music that you really enjoy by doing nothing.
     I find it amazing!
     No need to search for new songs like crazy when you're tired of the old ones!
     
     1️⃣
     Throwback Party playlist:
     when I feel tired or a bit unmotivated to study,
     I listen to these songs because they are old but still enjoyable and put me in a good mood!
     
     2️⃣
     @mikainstagram and @stromae songs when I feel tired at night and need some more energy to study longer.
     Their songs are full of energy and happiness.
     Try to identify singers that have that 'happy'
     effect on you!
     
     3️⃣
     Acoustic Covers playlist:
     when I want to study and relax 🙋‍♀️

     4️⃣
     Music for Concentration Playlist,
     Peaceful Piano or Soundtrack for Study:
     for instrumentals when I want that type of music to really focus on what I'm doing🙇‍♀️
